A long time coming! On our way to Rowan!
After so much waiting, and so much time, actually leaving for Seoul was incredibly surreal! We spend the last few weeks before leaving, spending as much quality time as possible with our big kids, making some amazing last few memories as a family of 4.
Soon, we will be all together, as a family of 5! But first, we have a 14 hour flight, and two week quarantine, before meeting Rowan!
Early Thursday, October 8th, two kids snuck into our room in the early morning hours. Our bed is much too small for these growing kids, let alone another little girl, will surely follow her big siblings in here someday. We had some snuggles, and then it was time to get ready to leave. The night before, we gave the kids bears with their nighttime songs recorded, and they carried them around this morning, with Quinn saying "you're the best mom ever!" Give the girl a teddy bear, and you suddenly are the best mom ever.
Steve and Jerri came over to say some final goodbyes, we hugged the kids, took one last picture of us, as a family of four, and we were on the way to the airport up in Cincinnati, driven by Steve and accompanied by Bernard and Watson.
Once we got into the airport, the fun quickly began. We go up to weigh our bags, sure that we may have to shift a pound or two her or there from maybe one bag or two. But, we couldn't be more wrong! Our bags came in a respective 65, 62, and 54 pounds. There we were by the check in gate with all three of our big bags, taking out things that we thought would be the very heaviest, and shifting them to a duffle bag we had folded inside the suitcase. I have never been happier for a duffle bag in my life! Turns out, all the things we packed to make our stay in quarantine a little more comfortable (like almond milk... what? You can live without almond milk for your coffee for two weeks?) were just a little heavy. As we had our bags sprawled out, three TSA officers came strolling over. I have to admit, adjusting our bags, moving over almond milk and other heavy items to our duffle bag, did look a little big sketchy! I almost laugh just thinking of it, now. We eventually adjust the bags, get them all under or at 50 pounds, and we are on our way! Just a quick bite to eat, a little bit of currency exchanged, and we board our plane to Detroit. One step closer to Rowan.
Not 1 minute after exiting our quick 45 minute flight from Cincinnati to Detroit, and they were already announcing the boarding of our flight to Seoul! We got our temperature taken, filled out some extra paperwork to say, "yes, we understand we will have to quarantine," and we were on the plane! Both Ross and I were so excited to fill out the paperwork and get on the flight, that we both left our water bottles sitting by the desk! I'm guessing that was an interesting find for the airport employees. Ooops!!
We got on the plane, looked around, and quickly realized that we were two of 6 passengers up in the economy plus section. We had tons of space, but sat next to each other, to honker down for the 14 hour flight. There were movies, and games, and sleep, and shows. Very frequently, we would check out the flight status.... and it never seemed as though it we were as far as we thought we'd be! We both took snoozes here or there, but it was pretty difficult to sleep! The first movie I watched was "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" and I heard a song in the middle of it. Sitting there in a dark plane, I had tears streaming down my face. A day I had longed SO much for, had me filled with such BIG emotions. Feeling so lucky to be able to travel right now. Excited to FINALLY be on our way to Rowan. Sad to leave our big kids for such a long time, and just so thankful I am their mama. So thankful to become Rowan's mama. Feeling like my heart is breaking for leaving, and bursting with joy for going.
